Basic salary

The fixed core of an employee’s pay, on which other components such as overtime or contributions are often calculated.

Basic salary is the stable part of pay that does not depend on the month. Allowances are added to it, and some payments are worked out as a share of it, which is why its exact definition matters in an employment contract.

Because other figures depend on it, a change to basic salary ripples through the payslip. A revision should be applied from a stated date, and the months it affects should be checked for arrears.
