Net pay

What the employee actually receives after tax, contributions, instalments and recoveries are deducted from gross pay.

Net pay, also called take-home pay, is the amount that reaches the employee’s bank account. It is gross pay less every deduction for the period, plus anything paid on top that is not part of gross, such as a reimbursement.

Payroll teams care about net pay because it is the number that moves money. The bank file is built from it, and it is the figure an employee checks first when a payslip arrives.
