Variable input
A one-off earning or deduction for a single payroll period, such as overtime, a bonus or a recovery.
Most pay repeats every month. A variable input does not. It is entered for one period, belongs to that period, and is gone from the next unless someone enters it again.
Good practice is to give each input an owner, a cutoff date and an approval, and to keep the amount it had when it was entered. An input that arrives after the cutoff belongs to next month, on purpose.
